When it comes to compact cameras, DJI has been leading the way with innovative products like the Osmo Action 5 Pro and the Osmo Pocket 3. Both cameras offer incredible features, but they’re designed for slightly different use cases. So, which one is right for you? In this blog post, we’ll break down the key differences, advantages, and potential downsides of each camera, helping you decide which is the better choice for your needs.

At just $329, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is significantly more affordable than the Osmo Pocket 3, which costs over $160 more for the base model (update the Osmo Pocket 3 case increased in price to $799). For budget-conscious creators, this alone makes the Action 5 an attractive option.
The Action 5 is fully waterproof and built to handle tough environments. Unlike the Pocket 3, which is delicate and requires extra care, the Action 5 can go wherever you go—rain, snow, surf, or trail.

With a built-in receiver for the DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic Mini, you can connect up to two wireless microphones directly to the Action 5, making it a great vlogging camera without needing extra gear.
The Action 5 is more “pocketable” than the Pocket 3. It doesn’t need a protective case and fits easily into a jacket or pants pocket—perfect for creators on the move.
With up to 4 hours of recording time and swappable batteries, the Action 5 is built for extended shoots. In contrast, the Pocket 3 lasts about 2 hours and 20 minutes, though you can extend it with external battery packs.
The Action 5 relies on digital stabilization, which is excellent in good lighting but can struggle in low light. The Pocket 3’s gimbal still holds the edge for cinematic stabilization.
The smaller sensor on the Action 5 limits its low-light capabilities. For night markets, indoor filming, or any dimly lit environment, the Pocket 3 performs better.

The three-axis gimbal on the Pocket 3 provides smooth, cinematic footage. Features like ActiveTrack and motion lapses add to its creative appeal.

Thanks to a larger sensor, the Pocket 3 offers better low-light performance and overall image quality, especially in indoor or nighttime settings.
The Pocket 3 is comfortable to hold and shoot with, especially for vlogging. It feels more like a professional tool in the hand.
The decision depends on your needs:
Both cameras are incredible tools for content creators, and in my opinion, they actually complement each other really well. I’m replacing my GoPro with the Action 5 Pro, but I’ll still use the Pocket 3 for projects that demand better low-light or gimbal footage.
I’ll be testing the Action 5 Pro in Costa Rica soon—surfing, vlogging, and capturing content on the go. Be sure to follow along!
